Awards and Recognition
ASDSA’s SUNucate initiative has received national recognition for its work to protect children from skin cancer and help them develop sun-safe behaviors. The Council of State Governments (CSG) included Utah’s sunscreen use in school bill in its 2019 Shared State Legislation (SSL) Volume. As a piece of legislation in the SSL Volume, it is shared with state leaders as legislative ideas for their consideration.
In October 2019, ASDSA was presented with the Excellence in Advocacy Award - Excellence in a State Issue Campaign by the Professional Women in Advocacy Conference (PWIA) for the SUNucate initiative. This award is designed to highlight the achievements of everyday advocates. The Excellence in a State Issue Campaign honors an advocacy effort that has successfully impacted the outcome of a state or local legislative/regulatory problem or opportunity on behalf of a cause, issue, client, organization or coalition.
Additionally, ASDSA was presented with the Profiles of Excellence (PoE) Award for SUNucate during the 2018 American Association of Medical Society Executives’ (AAMSE) annual conference. The PoE Awards recognize AAMSE member organizations for their advocacy, communication, education, membership and leadership efforts to advance organized medicine and improve the lives of physicians and their patients.
SUNucate has also been recognized by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) with a Power of A Gold Award. These awards are given annually and are known as the premier program honoring the vital contributions of the association community. The Power of A Awards showcase how associations leverage their unique resources to solve problems and advance industry performance to make a positive impact on society.
