The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery recently
announced its 2016 grant recipients of the Fredric S. Brandt, M.D., Innovations
in Aesthetics Fellowship Fund.
Yakir Levin, M.D., Ph.D., of Boston and Omer Ibrahim, M.D.,
of Chestnut Hill, Mass., each will receive a $25,000 clinical research grant
through the program, established in 2015 to continue the legacy of Dr. Brandt.
Dr. Brandt – widely known as one of the most innovative
dermatologic surgeons in the field – was a major ASDS contributor and leader,
receiving the ASDS Excellence in Education Award in 2009 for having
continuously served as ASDS Annual Meeting faculty during the previous decade. Dr. Brandt also
served as a contributing editor of the prestigious Dermatologic Surgery
The Fredric S. Brandt, M.D., Innovations in Aesthetics
Fellowship Fund – funded by The Allergan Foundation – promotes and supports the
career development of junior cosmetic dermatologic surgeons focused on cosmetic
treatments and patient care.
Dr. Levin will conduct the first-of-its-kind study “Laser
Tattoo Removal: Does the plume contain hazards and what safety measures are
appropriate?” Dr. Ibrahim will conduct “Treatment of perioral rhytides using
topical PLLA and fractionated CO2 laser.”
The 2016 Fredric S. Brandt, MD, Innovations in Aesthetics
Fellowship Fund winners were recognized at the recent 2016 ASDS Annual Meeting
in New Orleans.
“Dr. Brandt was a pioneer in dermatologic surgery, well
known for his expertise as well as his compassion and dedication to his
patients,” said ASDS President Thomas E. Rohrer, M.D. “The Brandt fellowship
fund is a fitting tribute to his passion for cosmetic dermatologic surgery and
his commitment to helping train the next generation of leaders in the field.”
The fund supports the research and clinical needs of fellows
enrolled in an ASDS-accredited Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship
Training Program. Dr. Levin is completing his fellowship at Massachusetts
General Hospital Dermatology Laser and Cosmetic Center in Boston and Dr.
Ibrahim is completing his fellowship at SkinCare Physicians in Chestnut Hill,
